Why is my Ingenuity Baby Swing not working?

When your Ingenuity baby swing suddenly stops working, it usually is not hard to find the problem. You just have to know what things you need to check. Unfortunately, not everything is covered in the ingenuity baby swing manual. Here are some of the reasons why your baby swing may suddenly stop working:
Battery Faults

If you’re using your Ingenuity baby swing out of the power supply, the battery might just be faulty. There are many reasons why the battery for your baby swing might be working improperly, and most of the time, you can fix it on your own.

Most times, the battery is only fitted incorrectly or dead. If any of the batteries fitted in the swing dies, it becomes unusable until you fix it. When your Ingenuity swing stops working, it can be time to get some new batteries in.

The Ingenuity baby swing batteries you need are D Batteries like these.

Alignments

Poor alignment can lead to an imbalance on a baby swing, which may prevent the overall system from working. If your baby doesn’t swing when you think it should be, the swing may just be tilted the wrong way.

There are many reasons why this may happen, but a common one is that your baby is lying wrongly on the swing. The weight may be tilted too much to one side, preventing your swing from moving

Seat Lock

As annoying as this may sound, one of the most common reasons why Ingenuity swing might suddenly stop working is because someone accidentally hit the seat lock button. This button is a safety feature to prevent unsupervised swings that can cause injuries, and when pushed, the swing will stop working.

Before trying any advanced fix, you should check to confirm you’ve not locked the seat. It’s usually easy to undo the seat lock, either by pushing the button once again or by moving it to a position with an unlocked padlock.

Weight Issues

The swing usually comes with a weight rating. This rating is the maximum weight it can carry without either squeaking or failing to work entirely. Once your baby exceeds this weight, it’s best to stop using the machine completely.

If your Ingenuity swing isn’t working, or if it’s producing a disturbing squeaky sound. It may be time to weigh your baby. If they weigh more than the maximum weight, you should consider finding them something else to swing on.

Manufacturing and Assembly Problems

It’s obvious to assume that any problem with your Ingenuity swing, you caused yourself. However, this is not always the case. Unfortunately, it can happen that you purchase a defective unit that just doesn’t work through no fault of your own. If it doesn’t work or stops working soon after your purchase, you should contact the company immediately. Usually, you have a warranty on the product.

Sometimes, you may be the one who assembled the swing incorrectly. No one can blame you for that, it’s honestly difficult to assemble an Ingenuity swing correctly. Representatives from Ingenuity should confirm the problem and help you replace or fix it if that is possible.

How To Fix A Squeaky Ingenuity Swing

There are many reasons why your Ingenuity baby swing may produce a squeaky sound while you use it. In this section, we’ll outline some of the reasons why your swing may be producing a squeaky sound, and some clever ways to fix it.

  1. Changing Gears

When using a baby Swing from Ingenuity, you may notice a slight squeaky sound when it needs to turn in the other direction after reaching the top. Since this noise can be incredibly annoying, it’s quite understandable that you may want to stop it completely.

Although the Ingenuity swing was designed to make that annoying little noise every time it needs to switch in another direction. What helps sometimes is pulling the legs apart a bit to the point that it squeaks less.

Even if you’ll try out some alternatives, most other swings from other brands have the same squeaky noise, maybe even louder and more annoying.

Most people get used to the noise after some time. It has no negative effects on your baby, and the characteristics of the sound make it a good way to lull your baby to sleep.

  1. Wear

If you’ve been using the swing for quite some time. It’s only natural that it starts to show some signs of wear. Fortunately, you don’t have to keep up with it, as the squeaky sounds of wear can be quite disturbing to your baby.

If you notice constant squeaky noise that’s certainly not from a changing gear, try to pinpoint the exact location of the noise. Although the Ingenuity swing was designed to make that annoying little noise every time it needs to switch in another direction. You could try putting some WD-40 in the moving parts.

Alternatively, you can oil the entire swing. Oiling is neither a bad thing nor does it void your warranty. It’s just a way to keep it working in optimum condition since it’s made almost entirely of metal.

  1. Balance

If your Ingenuity swing has constant problems with balance, you may be hearing a squeaky sound when it’s moving. There are a few reasons why your baby swing might be imbalanced. You should fix all the balance problems to keep it working optimally.

A common cause of squeaky noise via imbalance is when your child supersedes the recommended weight limit of the swing. Your Ingenuity swing comes with a maximum weight limit, and you should refrain from using the swing once your baby exceeds the limit.

Another reason why the baby swing may be squeaky is due to poor assembly. If you assembled it improperly, the effects may range from making squeaky noises to it not working at all.

If you can’t tell why it’s making squeaky noises, the best option is to call the customer support of Ingenuity. They can usually tell what went wrong with your unit, and if possible, they’ll help you fix it or arrange for a replacement unit.

  1. Assembly Errors

Ingenuity swings are not the easiest devices to put together. It’s pretty understandable if you made a couple of mistakes during the installation. Sometimes, the mistakes might result in the swing not working at all, and if you’re lucky, it might work with squeaking sounds.

If you hear any unusual sounds while using your baby swing (apart from the soft squeaking), you should never ignore that. An easy way to fix it is by phoning Ingenuity to help with the setup.

Alternatively, you can review your setup and fix all loose bolts and nuts. If that doesn’t solve the problem, you should try lubricating the erring parts to see if that changes anything.

While it may be fun to fix your baby’s swing all by yourself, that isn’t recommended. It will be too much of a hassle if you couple that with all the natural work you’re required to do as a new mum. Since Ingenuity’s customer service is phenomenal, it’s hard to justify doing all the hard work.

How to Store Your Ingenuity Swing

If you have a baby swing that you no longer use but would like to keep for future use, you’ll need to find a place to store it. Take a few precautions to ensure that the swing works properly when you bring it out for the next child, rather than just putting it away in the garage.

  2. If feasible, disassemble the unit and store it in its original packaging. Before you begin dismantling it, take a few photos if you decide to sell it rather than keeping it for yourself. We’ll all be glad we did this in the long run!
